The Dead Don't Hurt
The Dead Don’t HurtisViggo Mortensen’ssecond directorial outing (his first beingFalling), not only as director, but writer and composer as well. This may not have be the gunslinging western that I’d expected, but it does a pretty good job at being a very romantic, deliberately paced western that is more about the struggles many dealt with, mainly women, in America during the mid 19th century. The narrative itself feels a little half baked and the resolution comes way too quickly for it to have an impact, but the real highlight is definitely Vicky Krieps’ performance as Vivienne, a French-Canadian immigrant that must fend for herself after her husband decides to enlist in the midst of the civil war. It’s very much her story, which is told utilizing a nonlinear narrative device (to mixed results, in my opinion). It’s okay, that’s all I can really say. It’s shout pretty well and I found the soundtrack to be genuinely great, but the somewhat plodding story (not to mention pretty damn predictable) really hampers my enjoyment of the film.

Au début c'était confus, finalement c'est une belle histoire d'amour au temps des cowboys
