The Company of Strangers

i found a list of underseen films directed by women so i had to try and seek some of them out, and boy am i glad i did. this is just a lovely film. it’s one of those where not a whole lot happens, it’s basically entirely these ad-libbed conversations between a group of (mostly elderly) women but it’s still one of the most charming films i’ve seen. it was just so nice to hear these people talk about their lives and stuff, i mean i could have just listened to that all day. the bonds these women form with each other and the way they manage to get through a hard situation is just very, very sweet, this whole thing is sweet but in a very genuine sort of way. there’s a lot of nice little moments i loved but one that stuck out to me was when one of the ladies told one of the others that she was a lesbian and the woman’s reaction is very casual, simple, but very sweet and supportive nonetheless. just a nice, positive movie about life.
