Bad Education
Enrique recebe a visita de um amigo de infância, que também foi seu primeiro amor, e lhe dá a oportunidade de fazer um filme sobre um momento que esse amigo, Ignácio, viveu no período de escola. A história sobre a forma como ele foi violentado pelo seu antigo professor de literatura que também era padre. Almodóvar começa esse longa entregando a história de um cineasta que está em busca de seu novo sucesso, ao mesmo tempo em que reencontra um amor do passado e redescobre esse romance. A narrativa do diretor utiliza de seus cortes e enquadramentos característicos para contar uma história de drama, abuso e um mistério que genuinamente te prende. Se o longa possui um defeito, é fato de que as cenas que deveriam ser incômodas, pela ótica polêmica de uma figura sacra, são mais romantizadas do que o normal e retira a culpa da instituição e joga demais num sujeito único, sendo que sabemos que na realidade e em casos reais, isso é algo enraizado no sistema do que apenas o mau de uma pessoa só. No mais Má Educação é um filme de drama que cativa, possui uma narrativa sólida e personagens que transmitem verdade em suas atitudes e razões de ser.

Almodóvar reconstruye la ficción de La mala educación como un Puzzle perfectamente construido, con aires melancólicos y contundente contenido, la audaz construcción del film resulta bastante impactante.

i can only say that i spent the entire movie without knowing that Angel/Juan/Zahara was a mexican actor, that spanish accent was IMPECCABLE

- i completely forgot "quizás, quizás, quizás" was the song performed by zahara. that song hooked me as soon as i heard it from nat king cole in in the mood for love (2000). 😩 - the parts where ignacio and enrique first met as boys was heavy. - i think, like the skin i live in (2011), this is one of the more menacingly-toned films i've seen by almódovar. it leans more into a darker element of drama, and while i tend to enjoy those moments from almódovar, i also have to take them with a grain of salt, because he occasionally goes more heavy handed than he should. - i need to watch more films with bernal, because i recall this role being the first to notice the depth of his acting. outside of julio, from y tu mamá tambièn (2001), this is the only other role i viscerally remember. - this is a tough one. - it'll be a while before i see this one again. just so damn sad.

After so many films, though the themes are all the same, he strikes at them from different angles. Here, we look at what freedom means. Or what it means to be under authorial bodies and escape from underneath them. What weighs us down, what slips out. How much of us are actually free? How many debts does it take to even taste freedom? This one unravels brilliantly, focusing on artistic merit, who tells a story and who owns a story? Who warrants the ability to tell a story? Let truth be known?
