Butcher's Stain
i really enjoyed this! did not expect it to go this route especially after seeing the opening credits. i was fully engaged the whole way through. i think the plot carried things here, wasnt a particularly spectacular production. this was my favorite of the 5 2026 nominated short films. maybe im fake woke for liking this as much as i did. it certainly could have been more political or deeper or whatever you want to say, but im not mad at where it landed.

Butcher's Stain
My main issue with the film is that it wants to be political so badly, but doesn't have the balls to go all the way because it's also seemingly afraid of offending the country too much where the film takes place. The elephant in the room gets more and more apparent everytime mentioning Palestine is avoided, simply being reduced to "sharing pro-terrorism posts", said by one of the side characters, and "children living through violent bombings" by the main character. In the end, it comes off as a middle-of-the-road, short film, granting sympathy to both the pro-Palestine main character who sees the horror in pointless genocide and also the pro-Israel side characters, one of which is mentioned to have a relative be one of the Israeli hostages
Butcher's Stain
Good message but the random ass custody side plot took me out, like this man is arab in Israel, actively being discriminated against, AND DIVORCED??!! Give him a break 😭🙏
