Aguirre, the Wrath of God
Na natureza selvagem. A ambição do homem branco em desafiar o divino. Os olhos consumidos por insanidade e cobiça de Klaus Kinski são algumas das imagens mais emblemáticas e reveladoras de todo o cinema do Herzog.

Aguirre, the Wrath of God
20 RANDOM MOVIE CHALLENGE #13 a lot of really nice environmental shots in this, despite its gradual descent into madness there’s still something somewhat visually appealing about this. almost feels like a documentary with how real some parts of it are, i mean maybe it was. i go into all of these films for this challenge knowing only like the little synopsis letterboxd gives.
Aguirre, the Wrath of God
Did not like what they did to some animals. But visually stunning, let’s get that right.
Aguirre, the Wrath of God
Physical Media #5 AGUIRRE, WRATH OF GOD (1972) dir. Werner Herzog What happens when you mix the destructive force of greed with a chaotic sense of paranoia? Werner Herzog’s Aguirre, Wrath of God is the probable outcome. This arduous journey follows a Spanish expedition through an unknown land towards an unknown city of gold, whose existence is, well...unknown. It successfully highlights the dangers of blind faith, either towards a religion or country. The infamous Klaus Klinskiis the perfect vessel for this voyage into a realm seemingly steeped in mysticism. A film that comes to mind is Ciri Guerra’s Embrace of the Serpent, so if you’re a fan of this I’d recommend checking it out. Beautiful and thematically profound, Aguirre, Wrath of Godis a film everyone should experience at least once. It’s also not very surprising to me Klaus Kinskialmost killed several crew members during production.

Aguirre, the Wrath of God
“I am the great traitor. There must be no other.” A descent into madness fueled by delusion of grandeur and incompetence. Certain films touching the theme of “discovering new worlds” tend to sensationalize or romanticize these aspects, taking away from what actually happened and what was done in those places, usually by giving us a hero that changes sides and realizes their actions were wrong. There are no heroes in Aguirre, nor there are any redeeming qualities in its characters. It is full of delusion, greed, subordination and obsession, hunger for power and riches being lead by ignorance. Aguirre show us how our social structures fail outside the places we know, or outside its natural context, and how not questioning those structures and failing to adapt lead us to our own demise. An emperor with no power, a priest with no followers, an empire constituted by a raft and no land.
Aguirre, the Wrath of God
A slow, haunting, and deeply introspective film that explores power, anger, and the fragility of the human mind. The cinematography is stunning, with beautiful shots that enhance the unsettling atmosphere. As the explorers descend into madness, they begin to question their existence, which adds to the film's psychological weight. The performances feel raw and authentic, with the actors conveying a genuine sense of intimidation and instability. Overall, a very interesting experience, and a fascinating film by Werner Herzog.
