April Fool's Day

Didn’t expect to see Biff from Back to the Future in this, it would make a great double feature with Fincher’s The Game. Intrusive thought: younger Deborah Foreman looks JUST like Maggie Lawson (or maybe it’s the other way around?) from Psych

April Fool's Day

A Bay of Blood: A Ranking of Slashers (1974 - 1990) (http://boxd.it/IoH8) #10 of Slasher September (https://boxd.it/1dTfc) Dishing in a well balanced churn of mystery and suspense—along with its illustration of privileged students who really don't know what to do after graduation—this somewhat smart and satirical slasher is a generously cryptic spoof of the short-lived genre, despite its serious set of tropes and stereotypes that fill the screen. Fred Walton's April Fool's Day is less gore and more mystery—its off screen kills tell us something we don't know, unveiling the sign of a mysterious murderer in the midst of the group's getaway. And yet, the film manages to manipulates its audience in a hardly condescending manner that's rather magical—handing out the slasher formula one after the other and never going too overboard with it. There's fun to be had here, and with it comes a fun set of characters, each imperfect with their own tropes and formulaic presence—yet, it's somehow the most amusing thing about the film. April Fool's Day is a truly underrated slash-spectacle. 3.4/5
