The Look of Silence

"We did this because America taught us to hate communists" Having seen The Look of Silence and Exterminate All The Brutes within a 24-hour period, I have to say if you have the time, double feature it (or at least this and the first part/hour of EATB) as essential looks at humanity. Not inhumanity, humanity. The history of genocides and of mass murders and of tortures is the history of humanity. To look away from that fact is in a way no different from the countless "I'm not responsible"s Adi was forced to hear uttered to his face when wondering why he can't see his brother anymore, and honestly it's part of why this history continues seemingly without cease: we were capable of it before, we're capable of it now (still doing it in some cases worldwide), we'll continue to be capable of it as long as we can justify it or downplay it until or unless we can 1) be stopped or 2) be better

The Look of Silence

I can't this is very hard watching movie for me, i keep pausing it cuz too stuned to reacting. Intinya ini film bagus banget tentang sejarah pembantaian, also i'm rated it 3½ not means this is mid, but this is really a hard watch for me.

The Look of Silence

I grew increasingly uncomfortable while watching this film. It wasn't like my seat was uncomfortable, it was the fact that I was in public watching most of this film. Once I got home to finish it, that feeling of being uncomfortable returned. The Look of Silence makes me uncomfortable. It's not the film itself, or even the subject matter, but the subjects interviewed. Just watching him sit in the same room as these horrible men made me extremely uncomfortable. I couldn't have imagined how the filmmakers must have felt. The Look of Silence talks about a genocide in Indonesia many years ago. The main man's brother happened to be one of the men slaughtered. This man goes and interviews a large number of men that were soldiers at the time, with some of them even knowing of his brother's death. This film is heavy. I made a mistake by watching it in the public, as I became solemn after stopping. The subject matter itself is heavy, but the interviews add even more to the film. They are presented very casually, not seeming an interview, but rather a general conversation, thus making their answers even more horrifying. This casual tone reveals who these men truly were, and are now. I cannot fathom how these people justify the killing of a million people, with some saying that they were just a soldier, or that it wasn't actually them, yet they were the leader at the time. It's honestly disgusting seeing how these people still feel the same so long after it happened. Although I became extremely uncomfortable watching this film, I began to see how important this film is. Not only does it reveal to the world the horrid things that occurred in Indonesia, but how the families of those killed at least are put out into the public. It is extremely sad to see what happened to these people, and how brutal their deaths were. The Look of Silence opened my eyes to something I had absolutely no clue actually happened. This may be one of the most important documentaries that I have seen thus far.

The Look of Silence

They explained and acted it very clear, with pride and without regrets, pure devil. You never ever heal the wound you've cause. Rot in hell all of you!
