Diary entries forDon't Breathe
Don't Breathe
i had cardiac arrest atleast three times in this entire movie
Don't Breathe
Very much enjoyed this. There was lots of suspense throughout and it was genuinely scary. There were good twists and it didn’t feel overly long. Like many horror films though, the characters are so stupid it’s unbelievable. They make bad decision after bad decision and it gets very annoying. The acting is also awful, apart from the blind man himself who is pretty good. Overall it’s a good film which could’ve been great with a better cast and more realistic characters.

The last 20-30 minutes stopped this from being an instant classic for me. Fede Alvarez is still a must-see director imo just for pulling off the phenomenal Evil Dead remake better than anyone could have expected, but that he followed it up with something of only slightly less exquisite quality proves he's someone horror fans need to keep an eye on
Don't Breathe
When the old man shows up i'm literally hold my breath too, i guess i cannot survive there, i will fart if i hold my breath too hard.
Don't Breathe
filme desesperador, a edição de som ajuda muito no terror
Don't Breathe
This felt similar to how I felt watching mother! A very visceral watch, holding my breath the whole time. So so good. Good acting, and the scares got me more than a few times. Ending was perfect and haunting.

It's a very odd experience watching a film that I enjoyed quite a bit when I first watched it but found that I really wasn't interested in anything the film had to offer the second viewing. The first time that I watched Don't Breathe, I thought that it was a really good movie. There were so many good reviews about the film, I thought that I would love it as well. I thought that it did have some problems but really thought that it was a good movie. I saw what people liked about the film and just genuinely thought that it was a decent film. Now that I've watched the film again, I can say that I truly don't like this film. What I thought was entertaining the first time around didn't engage me. I found that the plot of the film felt too familiar, as there have been many others films with plots like this, but not exactly like this. Don't Breathe is a hodgepodge of tropes that work for thrillers on their own, but don't seem to work with how it was done here. There seemed to be so many tropes that I noticed throughout the film that really didn't seem to work. I found it hard to pay attention to the film, as I ended up realizing that the biggest problem that I had with the film was the characters. Generally, the lead characters are supposed to be people that you can connect with, that you can understand in ways. But in Don't Breathe, the characters are purposefully different, which could have worked, but only if the characters were written well and actually had few redeeming qualities. Instead of having characters that had the potential to feel real, the characters just seemed out of place, and I felt a distance between the characters that didn't seem natural. The characters consistently made decisions that weren't realistic but were rather only done for the effect of tension. The film is built on tension but never seems to do anything with the tension but leave it behind to build up a new kind of tension. Don't Breathe is a film that I had problems with, but never realized how many problems the film really had. There are many people out there who say that this film should be included among the likes of It Follows and The Witch in lists of great modern horror films. But this film is anything but a horror film, it's just an extremely generic thriller that attempts to pull off twists that other films have successfully done before, but ultimately ends up failing in doing so.

Man I wanted to like this more. The concept itself is very interesting and unique. The horror villian being a blind guy is interesting. The story was interesting and enjoyable as well. I liked the whole thing with rocky and her plans. Rocky was a good final girl as well. The other two characters were fine. The villian was great for the most part. I really liked all the horror aspects this had. The eerieness. The complete silent scenes. That one cool night vision or I guess black and white part. They were all great. The characters felt somewhat smart and dumb at the same time lol. Like why grab a hammer when there's probably something sharp in the tool room. The main reason this threw me off was towards the end. I was enjoying it mostly until that weird scene. To be blunt, seeing the blind guy try to forcibly impregnate the main character was absolutely atrocious. Ignoring gore that might be one of the most disgusting scenes I've watched. Like why did that have to be added. Usually graphic scenes like that I don't mind but this time it just felt wrong. It probably didn't help that during that whole scene the blind guy was mocking God. I usually don't get that upset over it but the combination of the two just made it worse. For the most part I would say this was enjoyable. But that whole scene just threw this film out the window for me. I just felt like it basically threw away the whole house thriller for a gross scene. Before hand I could've sided with either side but not anymore lmao. It just threw me off.
