Was really looking forward to this and it didn’t disappoint. Some absolutely beautiful shots of the badlands, and an unhinged couple where the man is a cold blooded killer. It’s a Bonnie and Clyde style story where Bonnie is more just a passive victim than anything else. A great film.
Badlands
Badlands is a great film to unwind with. The stunning natural scenery and beautiful atmosphere are what make the film so special, in my opinion. The story is also quite simple and accessible to everyone. I really enjoyed the soundtrack as well, so overall I have no complaints about the film. Unfortunately, it doesn't quite reach 4.5 stars because the story, for my taste, didn't offer enough depth.

It's taken me 2 full days to fully process Badlands. There isn't much I can actually say about this film. Malick's shots were absolutely beautiful, as were the performances from Sheen and Spacek. The juxtaposition of violence in nature was truly brilliant. I can't believe this is actually the first Malick I've fully seen. I've tried to watch Days of Heaven many times, but I just kept getting distracted. After watching this, I need to pay closer attention to his work, since it honestly blew me away.

81/100 She’s everything, he’s just Kit. She’s just this confused teenage girl stuck with this guy she thought she loved at least in what she deemed love to be at her ripe age. He on the other hand loves her but across the journey gets engulfed by the thrill of escape, the thrill of being an outlaw. In the end I suppose he did love her which is why he gave up for that last moment of glory, to bask in the celebration for being a heroic outlaw, to be seen by someone after being in the wilderness for as long. He realised that she was just a kid who’d grown tired of this life and he lost his motivation to continue. Hell they had a good run, imagine trying someone like that now, you wouldn’t make it out of the city let alone various states. A true reflection of the time it’s set in. This was such a dreamy film. I’d imagine many people who watched it at the time tried escaping and trying out this life away from everyone, just being with the person you love, going on a journey across a vast country. It’s a beautiful film that makes you feel nostalgic for someone you never experienced and probably never will. It brought to life what many would just imagine and dwell in the thoughts of. Gorgeous landscape, triggers, loneliness, outgrowing each other and escaping each other, trying out everything you thought wasn’t possible. I had a good time and most of the time, I was hopeful, hopeful that they might get away with it, that they might just make it to the mountains but how long can one keep going!

very scenic, beautifully shot film with some good nature photography. i think it’s interesting how that’s contrasted against the violent acts our protagonists commit (and also with the storybook-esque sorta narration spacek gives) and how that creates this sort of juxtaposition between things that’s a bit strange, but works.
