Resident Evil: Afterlife

Resident Evil: Afterlife

While Resident Evil: AfterlifeMay have aged a bit poorly, I can’t help but have a ton of fun watching this. This was my favorite installation in the Resident Evilfranchise for many years, and holds a dear place in my heart. The effects may seem dated, but they’ve got some kick-ass zombies this time around.

Resident Evil: Afterlife

This film was the main reason I started this franchise. Because I own the steelbook for it. Now I'm still wondering if I want to keep this at 4 stars or not but so far this is my favorite film. From everything I know about the resident evil games (Not a lot) this film felt the most similar to what I know about them. It felt very videogame like with all the slo mo and etc. It also felt the most stylistic so far. The action was probably my favorite so far as well. Maybe its just because they added slow motion. To be fair the previous action scenes were super fast. But the different kills I would say this had the best as well. The zombies also looked the best. The tentacle ones looked semi decent though. Axeman looked good but I prefer nemesis look from apocalypse. This also increased the gore which is always welcomed lol. The characters this time I still think Milla Jovovich carries so hard. This is also her best costume look so far. But the villian was pretty cool. Idk how accurate he is to the game wesker. I still found him pretty cool though. I also liked the clone thing it didn't look as bad as I was expecting. I also enjoyed how they basically threw out the alice has superpowers plot. I like it more when she's human. The story was pretty interesting this time too. It was very mysterious like the first, with acardia and what happened to the previous films characters. All the umbrella stuff I do find intriguing as well, I don't know how accurate it is though. I feel like since most of this is just with Alice and Wesker is why I enjoyed it so much. Some visual and effects look semi weird but I don't mind them because they aren't there that long. Maybe I'm just overrating this because I own the steelbook but idk. For now I'm leaving it a 4. Just an overall fun time I think for me at least.

Resident Evil: Afterlife

“You should have brought more.” Inevitably this is what happens when you put a Wachowski fan with his own unique vision behind the camera. Theopening sequence is the definition of cool. All style no substance. And that is okay. Sometimes what I need is a cool ass hour and half film with copious amounts of action, slo-mo, and coin shotguns. Sometimes what I also need is Wentworth Miller playing Chris Redfield. My man my man my man my man. His interaction with Wesker at the end was RE5 slop bait. But it was my slop bait.

Resident Evil: Afterlife

STEPS TO MAKE A MOVIE, BY PAUL WS ANDERSON: 1. slo mo. lots of it. enough to make your 60 minute movie 90 minutes 2. cliches. lots of cliches. in fact your dialogue? all cliches.  3. milla jovovich. in fact, one milla isn’t enough. get at least three jovoviches.  4. nu-metal music. preferably during the slo mo with milla. 5. four good shots. no more, no less. in the future these will become popular on twitter, so take notes. 6. profit (sort of)
