Sorcerer

Wild. Found it slightly confusing with all the different characters and how they ended up in South America. The obvious two, the man who robbed a church and the man whose banking firm was being sued were obvious, the other characters I had no idea. However, the film is trilling throughout, with the bridge scene being my favourite. Fantastic suspense and keeps you entranced throughout.

Thank God I have no idea how to drive a truck. Jokes apart, such beautiful storytelling. Truly about control over one's fate. Each one was running from their fate but was ultimately pulled back to it. I love the title "Sorcerer" which, while he was an evil wizard, here the evil wizard was actually fate. It goes into something deep, like do we even have control over our own fate. I loved the ending so much where *spoilers* :)

Sorcerer

The social scope is narrowed from Clouzot's adaptation, but only slightly. The four men all have clearly defined backstories and predicaments this go-'round, all of them explicitly self-inflicted. And in finding themselves trapped in the malaise of jungle seclusion and localized corruption, the nail-biting remainder of the film becomes an action-oriented statement of personal volition and a fight seemingly against fate, drifting towards loss of self. Perhaps it skews closer to the book? I'll be checking that out when my copy arrives. In every other way it attains levels of pure chaotic spectacle, filled with astonishing sequences and backed by an ominous, energetic synth score. The trucks are outright bestial, and their road all but returning to earth in their wake. (I'd swear you can hear Spielberg scribbling notes for his own vehicular suspense in Jurassic Park and Lost World.)

Os indigentes do bom Deus. Sem futuro, destino ou esperança. Todos condenados a mesma desgraça. Sobre o que há de pior na humanidade feito por um dos cineastas mais perversos que já existiu. Que você descanse em paz, Friedkin.

Stunning. Friedkin was cooking on an entirely different level within Sorcerer, crafting one of the most anxiety-inducing films you’ll ever see. Having only seen a small portion of The Wages of Fear, I knew the basic story, but even with that knowledge, I had no idea what I was in store for. It’s an adrenaline-pumping experience, which starts off strong and doesn’t let up. Absolutely wild to think that this is the film that he did fresh after finishing The Exorcist. This film truly needs to stand alongside The Exorcist in Friedkin’s filmography, as it truly is that spectacular. Wow.

Sorcerer

Sorcerer

The few minutes were a little confusing for me, but after that, I understood the whole movie pretty well. Visuals were amazing. The few minutes were pretty intense. Honestly, this is one of those that I need to watch again to catch what I missed.

Really love the way the grills of the trucks look like fucked up weird little mouths. The incredible tension! The gang of misfits! The score!  Everything feels tangible, you can feel the heat of the jungle, or the sheets of rain pouring down on you.  I actually really enjoyed the table setting of the first half of the film, made the contrast of the second half even more effective.
