Kuso

Weird how I can watch Adult Swim programming for well over 86 minutes and not get bored, but even a quarter into this 86 minute film that basically is the equivalent of Adult Swim programming, I was checking my watch and wondering what I got myself into This was Flying Lotus’ directorial debut? Cool, make sure it’s his directorial finale too

Kuso

Film #9 of August 2017 Scavenger Hunt Task #19: Watch a film featuring the Wilhelm Scream! BONUS IF YOU CAN FIND IT AND TELL US WHERE IT IS IN YOUR REVIEW (Scream near the 42 minute mark) Film has the ability to portray images that physical art is unable to fully express. These images can be comedic, romantic, absurd, terrifying, or can make the viewer contemplate what the images are portraying. Kuso is such a film, managing to make the viewer laugh, make the viewer ponder what is being shown, disgust the audience, and really make the audience wonder, what can be shown in a film and still be considered art? Art itself is very subjective, but experimental art is the most subjective art form there is. Experimental films, for many audiences, can be a hit or a miss, with this film being a miss for many people, due to the nature of the film. Flying Lotus is a very interesting artist, as he is a musician, and now a filmmaker. Having listened to his music, it's clear to see that his style, merging different genres to create psychedelic music, transferred into his filmmaking. Kuso is a filmmaker creating something of passion, despite it being quite absurd and disgusting at times. But this film is a prime example of why I love film, since it shows images that can't be shown in a physical art form. Kuso is far from being a perfect film, but deserves respect for what it is; a film that is willing to take chances and show images that most other films wouldn't dare to show. It is controversial, but shows just how magical film can truly be.
