Disobedience

I’m happy but I’m sad. It’s a simple plot, delivered simply, but it worked for me. Would I have preferred less grey colour grading. Yes - but then how else would they signal the misery that rips two Rachel’s away from what would be a glorious and happy relationship? Why can’t lesbians ever end up happily ever after?  Sigh.

Disobedience

This movie ended where it began, nothing really happened throughout the movie, performances we’re dull and the actors seemed like they didn’t want to be there.

Disobedience

i turned on my laptop so i could write this review better because this whole movie just left me aching. im still trying to process everything that's happened and honestly, holding back tears because this one hit a bit too close. while I admire ronit for having the bravery of leaving everything behind because she wasn't about to let other people dictate her life, I have to focus on esti here because her character was the one that spoke to me the most. from being told she was sick in the head to being forced to marry a man because it would "cure" her to being "left behind" (i put it in "" because i do not truly consider it being left behind but im not sure how else to put it) by the only girl she's ever loved, esti was, without a doubt, the strongest character. sometimes its hard to let go of everything you've ever known and sometimes its hard to accept who you are when everyone around you tells you you're wrong but esti, even with all her demons, managed to come out of it a winner. there's just something about her story, about the way she felt like she needed to be someone else before choosing freedom over security, that made my heart ache but in a good and bad way and im sure a lot of sapphics will be able to feel it too. i also want to mention dovid because even though I hated him for most of the movie, the ceremony part was the one that hurt me the most. it felt freeing for me, seeing esti become free and seeing what used to be three best friends finally settle and put behind the beliefs that were pushed into them to listen to what was actually right. which was being free to be whoever you are. to finish and mention ronits character which I absolutely loved, i want to, once again, mention her bravery for having left a place that was against her existence, in a way, but also mention how strong she had to be to go back to the place that, even tho brought her happiness, also brought her a lot of pain. a lot of it coming from her father. if i was me, i wouldn't have gone back but ronit did and the ending scene of her taking a picture of her dads grave was the perfect ending and the perfect goodbye. i have no idea if any of this makes sense as I am still all over the place but this movie has now found a spot in my heart. i just finished it and i cannot wait to rewatch it again. i highly recommend it if you're lgbt+ and are looking for a movie that isn't the basic huge age gap difference or basic lesbian porn. this movie will make you ache and yearn and love.
