30 Days of Night

Just my type of visceral vampire-action film, this was such a good time! I absolutely love the setting, the premise of them being stuck in a small Alaskan town for a month with no sunlight and suddenly—vampires? Genius. Speaking of the vampires, they look great and are actually quite creepy. Sam Raimi being a producer on this makes so much sense, such a bloody, brutal mess in the best way.

30 Days of Night

"When man meets a force he can't destroy, he destroys himself. What a plague you are." Showed my favorite vampire movie to my favorite movie-buddy. A vibe.

30 Days of Night

❝When man meets a force he can't destroy, he destroys himself. What a plague you are.❞ ──────⊹⊱✫⊰⊹────── This was surprisingly better than I expected. After seeing the film poster and reading the plot overview I thought it'd be a typical goofy horror, but the premise was interesting and it was executed decently. The idea of vampires having free-rein essentially due to the polar night is (as far as I know) pretty fresh, and when you add in an isolated town also battling harsh cold the drama goes up a notch. I do wish we got to learn more about the vampires, like their origin and how they got access to a ship, but on the other hand they remained mysterious villains that were simply a threat. They reminded me a little of the vampires in I Am Legend: 'senseless' monsters with surprising intellect, and way cooler-looking. It got a little cheesy at times, and by the last third of the film it really dragged a lot, but there was some really good camerawork (like the shot of the ship approaching land) and not bad performances from most of the cast, especially from Josh Hartnett. That ending was brutally cliché, though. I don't know if I'd watch 30 Days of Night on my own again, but I think it'd be fun to watch with family or friends.
