it was so beautifully done, i cried when it ended i wanted to see more!! it just gave me a headache of how much it change from the original musical because there’s some songs that are cut and some stories are different and also there are some songs that are just so much better from the og but all in all i love it!!!

puerto ricooooOoooOoooooo! movie makes my heart feel good. some plot holes i did not really think about before, mostly regarding the college finances and sonny’s immigration status. but we move on! it’s a fun movie! ramos stands out vocally here as he should. and abuela. the rest of the performances are ok. i was most disappointed by vanessa. the gap between the OBC and movie is most apparent with her.

my first movie back in the theaters! ☺️ love the energy of the movie (and the musical) so much, it translated so well. benny was the standout sonically, and every single song scene was visually stunning. the changes were appropriate and interesting enough to be entertaining and novel even though i’ve heard the soundtrack like 30 times. saw the play on youtube and wish i could have in theaters but this was a great alternative.

this second viewing just hit harder, hard enough to get that final half star to go from 4.5 to 5. things i picked up from my second early screening: i will seemingly always get chills from “i dropped out” and the end of paciencia y fe. it’s such a little thing but the fact that the production team did not shy away from the mirrors in the salon despite the fact they would have to cgi every reflection was bold. i noticed when vanessa walks thru the salon and we dolly to follow but you see no crew or gear. nice. the vanessa and usnavi beer throw / explode scene had to be an accident that made it into the final cut. that was too perfect and natural to be in the script. also anthony was too much of himself to be scripted, he saved it well with some improv bringing the attention back furthering the plot with whatever dialogue he said, i forget, but it was def just a good save by him to make sure it was a usable take. i noticed luis miranda (welcome home during “Breathe”) this time as well as javier muñoz (smiling in a group during “Finale”) for a split second. wholesome. probably other cameos in there that i missed. i peeped a picture of “young abuela” in nueva york that was def just olga irl in new york which made me smile. why fake it when they had perfect irl props. benny still sounds the best (smooth like CJ), but i did like nina a little bit more even after now viewing with the knowledge that she is a irl singer and having high expectations in the rewatch. i don’t fully understand why they rearranged the plot a little bit (saving lottery reveal for like the last scene, usnavi therefore just having the money somehow for the dr, and the money being used to get sonny a green card) but it made sense in the movie i suppose. i guess it does give people who know the story a little bit of a twist and something new but like, why did they kill camila? 😔 w/ matt and audrey (i’ll start tracking this now)
