I wanted to like this more, but the story just felt like John Wick with a tutu. I kept wishing they’d given her a narrative that was fully her own instead of leaning so heavily on the Wick formula. That said, the lead of Ana de Armas was perfectly cast—she brought the right energy to the role and absolutely owned the fight scenes. The choreography was sharp, fluid, and brutal in the best ways. Just wish the script gave her as much individuality as her action sequences did. I think if Ana de Armas is now inheriting this franchise I would love to see it become her own because I know she has it within her.

disclosure: i haven’t seen the last (2?) john wicks so i get that i am missing that piece here. still, this was laughable - except for the fire sequence, that was really cool, how did they do that. this makes ana de armas look like a mid actress, now im doubting if she is actually good. she hasn’t played a role as well as knives out since knives out. peaked early? she’s not a believable action star. it was funny how john wick was treated like a mythical creature. i wasn’t mad at this running joke - even without seeing all the movies, i get the reference here. not much at all wowed me here except the fire. everything else was meh.

It’s a good time. Sure, the story is overdone and quite silly, but it’s entertaining with good acting throughout. If you’re looking for mindless fun this film will definitely hit the spot.

Just as good as the John Wick films, Ballerina is a very entertaining and enjoyable experience. It’s pretty much exactly what you’d expect it to be, with the entire draw being the over the top action sequences, but it definitely delivers in that category and I had a good time watching.

Put Ana De Armas in more movies! That flamethrower sequence is an all-timer set piece, fight choreography and camerawork are incredible! So many “looney-tunes”-esque comedic moments sprinkled throughout, like when she whacks the guy with a TV remote and it changes the channel with each hit. Props to Chad Stahelski and his team for continuing to expand this franchise, I’ll watch 100 more easily.
