Drive
I remember hearing about this movie when it first came out. It kind of had the feel and reputation of being an "indie-adjacent movie" that made its way into theaters. You know, back when we had mid-budget films that released in theaters. Ryan Gosling was still a little under the radar at the time, and so were Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan, too, for that matter. It seemed cool. I never got to see it, but it seemed cool. And then the next year Childish Gambino released a mixtape with a song on it called R.I.P, that used a sample from the film; it was one of the coolest songs I had ever heard. The point is, I've been trying to watch this movie for a while. So imagine my surprise. When the movie starts out with Ryan Gosling playing a Hollywood stuntman who gets wrapped up in a crime scheme involving somebody he likes. It sounded just a bit familiar. Ok, maybe that is oversimplifying things just a bit. The movie is awesome. It has that feel of the silent, reserved action heroes of the 70s with the gritiness to it. I'm kicking myself for not seeing it sooner. And the soundtrack is unbelievably good in being both unique and atmospheric in nature.

Drive
Drive is a masterpiece. The score, cinematography and directing is all fantastic. The acting is perfect. It’s a deep, depressing film, made with passion and thought. An excellent piece of cinema.
