Absolutely filthy and absolutely campy. Garbage cinema that is so much fun to watch. It’s notorious for a reason, but still manages to be one of the most interesting and entertaining films that you’ll ever see. Pink Flamingos shows just how powerful interesting storytelling can be, and how a low budget isn’t the death of a film. I cannot wait to give this film another watch, and definitely need to take a dive into John Waters’ filmography, as this film truly impressed me.

Yeah so, going in blind and just knowing that it's under the "queer category" definitely did not prepare me for what I had just experienced. No yeah, IT WENT THERE and quite honestly, I'm EXTREMELY surprised. I literally can't close my mouth cause I'm in massive shock. Pure creative freedom. LOL! But for real though! What felt like "no regulations" throughout the flim, bro just said "fuck it, I'm the filthiest director of my time period and nobody can stop me" and I give massive props to John Waters. I think from a technical standpoint, I could tell this was a "low budget" sort of film which for some reason it made it better. Like it just made certain shots feel too authentic. (ik technology wasn't the greatest then but still.) I'm most certainly sure this film has inspired most shock value films of today's time, and hell, even my favorites. There might be a high chance that this film will be on my mind constantly. I probably would not have enjoyed this if I saw this earlier in my "cinephile" arc or my earlier 18-20's. This film probably did numbers for closeted folks back in the day but for me, not really? (still figuring out internally) but I do think watching Shinya Tsukamoto's work and other sorts of films "slightly" prepares you for "anything". Seeing a trans individual in this film is so intriguing & fascinating, like it's always been around. #welovetoseethat TLDR: Just know this isn't for the weak and do whatever with that.

Gross beyond description 💞💆♀️✨✨ (and 100% more cinematically important than the godfather #btw) genuinely vile, hilarious, shocking, and fabulous in a way that is so unapologetically fresh, off-putting, and GAY it's hard to look away from. There is a certain liberation in turning the cruelty of life up to 100 in fiction, in embracing villany and deprivaty in order to push the boundaries of human expression, to interrogate our societies seriousness through weaponized disgust and sickening satire. Thank you John Waters for all the queer boundary pushing filth you put into the cinematic world and a happy 80th birthday to you and your enigma of a mind that conjured up something this magical. Im still paying off my milo and otis debt with an ongoing vow of vegetarianism so ill just go ahead and add on 10 more years of penance for witnessing that chicken scene.... (-1/2 star for that sorry, it was actually so much worse than i imagined, and maybe that was the point. But im just glad it got eaten after and didn't go to waste,... In the end...for better or worse, wherever you are, i appreciate your artistic sacrifice little chicken and i won't forget you💔)
