The Boy Behind the Door
The characters get kinda stupid even for horror films in order to keep the runtime going (in ways that get particularly hard to ignore in the second half), and there's a really convoluted setup for the main The Shining homage. That they were only brief breaks in the otherwise nonstop tension this elicits is a testament to the great performances and direction Directors David Charbonier and Justin Powell also made The Djinn, which also released this year, also starred Ezra Dewey, and also was a surprisingly solid very tense horror film. It'd make for a good double feature; it makes for a good first two feature films in their career. Worth keeping an eye on what they do next
