Rarely do things go well when a white boy is writing a manifesto. A movie that is never shameful in concept or execution, the three leads absolutely nail their roles in this absurd drama. Very 90s in portrayal of high school social norms, both accurate and problematic at the same time, but these are not good people. And with a killer soundtrack to boot.

Wow wow wow. I expected to like this one, but I was still pleasantly surprised! I don't remember the last time I laughed so much watching a non-comedic movie, but the lines in this film are so damn good it's impossible not to. It's a shame I haven't heard more people talk about this movie---it feels like it should be considered canon in the teen campy romance genre, and yet it doesn't seem like it succeeded outside small cult following it established upon release. Everything from the taboos to the melodramatic plot, excessively evil characters, sharp wit, and every single outfit Sarah Michelle Gellar wears in this feels iconic. I wish I could make my email signature "email is for geeks and pedophiles" but alas.

80/100 I just came. Okay I would allow this Sarah Michelle Gellar to manipulate the shit outta me and destroy my life. When she lay on the bed, I was bamboozled, hypnotised, transfixed, spellbound, entranced and bewitched all of which mean the same but the repetition is necessary to express the extent to which I found that sexy. Now for the movie, it’s actually much better than I thought it would be. If you wanna reduce it to a few words, it’s about a rich fuckboi who found love, but that’s unfair. There’s so much packed into that short 1.5 hour runtime. It’s sexy, exciting, full of drama, there’s envy, there’s love and there’s a weirdly funny death scene which didn’t make sense to me and at last there’s karma for the lady who I would allow to destroy me. Regardless, a really fun film and an extremely sexy cast namely Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, Reese Witherspoon and Selma Blair.

the cast has sexy people so i guess that's supposed to make up for how bad the movie is but it just... doesn't. some scenes were so corny and the romance felt rushed so i couldn't even root for sebastian and annette

Funniest thing about this is that my religion professor (who is also a bishop) made us watch this in class, it was so hilarious. I also did a math exam while watching it so, interesting experience.
