Diary entries forEvent Horizon
Event Horizon
I'm not even mad Paul made literally everything else he made after this. Short of retiring on the spot, it was all downhill from here no matter what To this day the most purely fun, incredible sci-fi horror film I'll passionately defend as misunderstood greatness to my death Young Laurence Fishburne still fucks me up
Event Horizon
Hell's bells and gravity wells, this perennial derelict hell-ship delirium is an ongoing nonsense and I cannot get enough of this scrumptious trash. Love what you've done with the place, Sam.
Event Horizon
A estética desse filme é boa, o começo é do caralho, mas o restante é fraco. Fiquei impressionado com o CGI de 1997.

Hooptober 9 (https://boxd.it/iw0h4) #9 of 33 • EXTRA horror film set in space (https://letterboxd.com/gfox_1/list/horror-in-space/) or the future (https://letterboxd.com/tenaciousnyx/list/films-set-in-the-future-1/genre/horror/) This movie has so much potential. The late 90s cliches hold it back of course, along with it being heavily edited down from the original 2-hour runtime (if you don’t know what I’m talking about, look it up). What I wouldn’t give for someone to remake this nowadays but with that 2+ hour runtime and a heavy R-rating. Also, why do all of the posters for this film suck? Again, so much potential here.
Event Horizon
“Hell is only a word. The reality is much, much worse.” I’m not sure I would have gone for Hellraiser in space when Hellraiser is already a boring horror franchise, but that’s what happened here so who am I to question PWSA? It certainly wasn’t his directing and horror sensibilities—those were what made this worth watching. Also loved how strange the atmosphere of the Event Horizon was and how alien the ship itself felt. Phenomenal set design. Where the film loses me is the dialogue/writing. I don’t mind dumb characters, you need them to make a horror movie work. But none of these characters get a clue until the last 30 minutes or so and it was very grating, to say the least. Someone will ask what’s going on, someone will say what’s going on, and the one who asked will be like: you just made that up! This circular dialogue goes on for far too long and it happens in at least three instances I can think of. Still, great gowns…beautiful gowns. A classic sci-fi horror film that I wish they made more of.
Event Horizon
Well...this was definitely a post-Aliens 90s sci-fi horror movie. Pretty forgettable overall but there were parts I enjoyed! Definitely see how this is the same director of Resident Evil.

Paul W.S. Anderson (https://boxd.it/1IEj) • 1997 • Horror, Sci-Fi A visually arresting mishmash of tones and ideas, Event Horizon draws clear inspiration from other (better) movies — Solaris, The Shining, Hellraiser — and infuses it with that uniquely terrible Paul W.S. Anderson twist. The film is marred by contrived writing, dialogue, absurd character choices, and terrible 90’s cheese (the kind that makes your eyes roll). Despite my obvious dislike towards the film, there are some bright spots. Sam Neill and Lawrence Fishburne deliver some entertaining performances, and reminded me of Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley and Paul Reiser’s Carter Burke’s relationship inAliens (add that one to the list of better films this took from). Even the ship design, another aspect I quite enjoyed, strives to evoke a similar ambiance to that ofAlien. Although it falls (very) short, I can appreciate the effort it makes. I also find the ship itself becoming alive kind of neat, despite it being a very dumb idea on its own — it works, in a 90’s cheese-fest type of way. Regardless of its narrative shortcomings, Event Horizon may prove entertaining for some, even if it wasn’t to my taste. ⏵ SPOOKTOBER 2023 (https://boxd.it/pxRFI)
Event Horizon
well made and shot, but for whatever reason “evil solaris” just doesn’t connect with me. maybe it wasn’t the right movie for my mood
