Not sure about the last 10 minutes or so but otherwise it was great and the gore was so nasty. Dennis Quaid eating shrimp and yelling every time he showed up was hilarious. 9/10

Incoming CinemaScore F Coralie Fargeat definitely has the juice. Demi Moore - underrated? Quaid is great here, but I can t help but wonder how this would’ve been had Ray Liotta lived to play the role. Seems like it would’ve felt darker? É dolorido como uma mensagem tão necessária e profunda foi desperdiçada em um filme como esse. Antes de falar mal, preciso dar o valor à direção, fotografia e com toda certeza a atuação da Demi Moore e da Margaret Qualley. É incrível, mesmo com todo o body horror ainda é impossível tirar o olhar das cenas de tão bem feitas. Enfim, como eu disse, a mensagem é profunda. A forma como foi aplicada, não. O filme pega o exagero do horror para esfregar na sua cara apenas a superficialidade do etarismo, um tema tão importante para ser comentado hoje em dia e parece até ser esquecido dentro do próprio filme. Expõe demais, faz a gente de burro e pra finalizar… Esquece totalmente o que queria ressaltar para apenas focar no horror e no choque. Tipo, cheguei no final e fiquei “sério, precisa disso?”. Sinto que tava indo até bem, e simplesmente se perdeu. O gênero sobrepôs a mensagem do filme, o horror se tornou mais importante do que refletir sobre o que o filme quer falar. Isso é uma escolha. Pra mim, uma escolha burra. Tinha tudo para ser o melhor filme do ano como bem disseram mesmo, mas aí jogaram no lixo.
The Substance
I liked this film a lot. The non-subtlety works extremely well, until it doesn’t. The body-horror is fine, but that’s never quite been my jam. The rest of the film is so in-your-face that I think the runtime is bloated because of it. The first 2/3 of the film is spectacular. The final third was wild, exhilarating, intense… and a bit much. But that’s fine, and most people will love that. I’d say the film works and I consider it great. Not just in genre, but overall. Demi Moore award recognition is deserved. I think Margaret Qualley has unfortunately been overlooked in a role for which she should have seriously received major nominations. The direction I found to be exemplary. I think Coralie Fargeat has a wonderful eye for cinema and this was an excellent introduction for me to her work. There are so many shots in this film that make you feel like you’re watching a classier version of Natural Born Killers or a much more fun version of Requiem For A Dream, and I LOVE that about this movie. I just that think leaving a bit more on the cutting room floor would’ve benefited The Substance.
