I Can’t Help It eu fiquei TÃO feliz!! OH MICHAEL YOU WILL ALWAYS BE THE MOST FAMOUS PERSON EVER!

— I believe music can change the world. Spread love, joy, and peace. That is what I want the world to feel... magic! First of all, I need to make two things very clear: I’m a fan of biopics, even knowing all the flaws most of them have, and I have a very personal attachment to Michael Jackson. Adding to that my trip to the cinema after not being able to go for a while, I have to say that Michael entertained me from start to finish. Even though I know a lot about his life, I felt drawn into the story and felt a sense of happiness with every song that played. He, as a person, as an artist, and as a character had a very unique charm that still enchants me to this day. The highlights are the performances of Jaafar Jackson, Juliano Krue Valdi, and Colman Domingo. The latter two are phenomenal in their own right, carrying the story with great confidence. As for Jaafar, he makes it seem as if Michael came back to life to make that film, with moments where I wondered if it wasn’t some actual footage of him instead of the movie. Being from the family helps, he has very similar features, but beyond that, he captures the movements and the gaze. It’s like seeing him young again. Additionally, I liked that the family didn’t prevent Joe Jackson from being portrayed as the horrible person he was, who saw his family as mere objects and sources of money. I thought that because of the family’s involvement, they would have softened that side, but even though they don’t rely heavily on imagery of explicit violence that often, it’s still there. In fact, I felt the film’s editing was very fast and skipped over some parts, not giving enough time to develop certain things. I believe it would have been more fluid if the focus had been on the making of Thriller and guided by that era, working with flashbacks and the dynamics of the Jackson family. Maybe using the songs and the details of that era with more space and time would have benefited all aspects of this film. I must point out that the celebration that was going to the cinema to watch this made the experience even better. Seeing people of all ages, entire families, and fans recreating iconic outfits made everything even more fun. The playful moments before the film were an event in themselves, with a great deal of “hehe” all around. Personally, I understand there are some issues with pacing and narrative, but the cinema and the overall fun made me enjoy it to the fullest, and I will hold this film dearly in my heart.

Average rating on this at 3.6 at time of this review is an absolute joke. Doesn’t deserve anywhere near that as this is a bland, biased biopic which offers so little bar the amazing music on display. Sure, the music is fantastic, but of course it is, everyone on the planet knows about MJ and the music he made. Apart from that though it’s a terrible film and you’d be better off just going on YouTube and watching all his music videos. The ending is also embarrassing and I wouldn’t care in the slightest if we end up getting part two. I’d probably still watch it though.
