i love me a good underdog story
Creed
“You’re still a Creed, and you’re still a fighter.” — Rocky Balboa I know, I’m super late to this movie — but I can thank that viral TikTok edit for finally pushing me into the Creed rabbit hole. And honestly? Worth it. The pacing is quick and easy to follow, never dragging between the big emotional beats and the fights. The boxing sequences are brilliant — intense, well-choreographed, and grounded enough to make you feel every punch. Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone have this perfect back-and-forth that’s both playful and heartfelt, and seeing Stallone older genuinely tugs at the heartstrings, especially if you grew up on Rocky. What impressed me most is how the film uses nostalgia as a tool instead of a crutch. The callbacks to Rocky land because they serve Creed’s story, not just to wink at the audience. It really feels like the torch is being passed, not stolen — a continuation, not a copy. An exciting watch that manages to honour the legacy while creating something fresh.
Creed
The lord knows scene is one of the best in any boxing film, the chemistry between Jordan and Stallone is great and the boxing scenes are beautifully shot. Wasn’t keen on the love side plot, felt very unnatural at times. It’s good but not as good as I remembered it being when I watched it in the cinema at 15. Oh, and Nike absolutely smashed it with the clothes.
