Byzantium

❝I'm never merciful, and knowledge is a fatal thing.❞ •❅──────✧❅✦❅✧──────❅• I have mixed feelings about Byzantium; one one hand, it had a lot of potential and a very interesting take on the vampire genre, but on the other side the execution was a bit poor. The story took so long to really get started, and I almost considered turning it off. After a while, it began to get interesting, especially when the flashbacks came into play, but the pacing was terrible; too slow for the majority of the film, then suddenly going into hyperspeed during the last ten minutes. I really liked the costumes and sets that were used during the flashbacks, and I wish more time was spent in the past. There was some gorgeous cinematography, with great shots of the different natural locations. The score was beautiful, and matched the melancholic and eerie atmosphere very well. I didn't really like any of the characters, though I could sympathise with Clara and Eleanor's story. The acting was decent, but to be honest I didn't think anyone did a superb job, which was surprising because I usually love Saoirse Ronan's performances. All in all, Byzantium was alright, but not a film I'll be rewatching.
