When I think of Didion or Babitz, I think of great relics like Anger who had such an appreciation of the land, understood the atmosphere skimming the surface. In coupling Anger’s work to old Hollywood stars, you get to see where a lot of movie magic love comes from and how it affects Anger. And it’s always nice to see where everything comes from, how it shapes a person. Man and land coincide and Kenneth Anger is proof of it. A lot is glossed over, and not a lot is there, but that’s LA, essentially.
