Holy moly. Out of everyone who's watched this I'm probably the one who watched it for the dumbest reason. I don't know which cut this was that I watched. I honestly was nervous getting into this because of how long it was but I gotta admit it was great. In a time like the world is today this film feels even more special. This is the first film in ages that is this long that I've watched willingly for the first time. This surpassed my expectations by a mile. At first I thought it would start slow but I love how everything just happens immediately. We as viewers are basically thrown into this world alongside the characters. The story I found inspiring and motivational. The concept was amazing. If I ignore big franchises like starwars, this is one of the best science fiction films I've seen. This felt like a mix of a zombie film with an alien film. With all the different scenarios and all the separate characters. Seeing it like it was just a normal day starting out is how I want all my apocalypse films starting out ngl. Seeing The aliens looked amazing. The world building is great as well. The runtime I feel like no matter how good usually will drag when you know its close to the end. But this definitely did feel shorter than I thought it was going to. This honestly felt like the perfect film for the current planet. This made me feel motivated and inspired Seeing everyone across the globe team up to defeat aliens. The cast was great as well, probably my favorite Jeff Goldblum role. I forgot will Smith was in this so seeing him was a surprise. All these characters I could actually care for. Except the aliens. I honestly think the long slow runtime adds to it in a way. Like waiting for the aliens to make a move. Just like in the film when they refer to it as a big chess game. Just everything about this I really enjoyed. Overall, amazing concept, great cast, very inspiring and motivational. One of the best science fiction films I've seen in a while. Until I eventually see Project Hail Mary lol. I watched this to continue my Mckenna Grace filmography run yet this was just phenomenal on its own. Hopefully the sequel isn't that bad.
