Dear Basketball

Without a doubt, Kobe Bryant has left his mark on basketball. Knowing absolutely nothing about the sport, it's hard to connect to Dear Basketball, but it's a beautiful short that shows just how much love and devotion that Bryant has had for basketball. The animation is minimal, but that's all there needs to be to get what Bryant wants to get across. He still loves the sport, even if he cannot continue on with a career in it, but this shows his pure love for the sport. It's a very different kind of short, but a touching one nonetheless.

Seen as part of the 2018 Oscar Shorts from ShortsTV Dear Basketball is the weakest of the nominees this year. More of a glimpse at a career, this really is focused on Bryant's love of his sport. It definitely shows the dedication that he has put into his career, but there really isn't anything memorable about this short. The other shorts that are nominated this year are much stronger contenders and are much more memorable than this one. It's still a good short, but one that feels out of place compared to the other nominees.
