Picnic at Hanging Rock
Hard to quantify, both in and out of the cinematic frame. It'd been on the ol' backburner'd "To see" list practically since I first watched Dead Poet's Society but just never got around to it. Until today, after finishing the book it's based on and immediately bee-lining right to it. Neither work connected for me... initially. Both had their annoyances or perceived errantry... and yet both are assuming an uncanny hold as the evening goes on, particular to their forms. Nothing to do with competing motivations, or goals... just different ones. It's becoming harder to want to imagine one without the other, in a way, with each of them adding something savory to a sort of combined mystery. Star rates feel particularly nebulous here in the space between.
Picnic at Hanging Rock
Not sure how else to explain it, but this whole film felt like a fever dream? Definitely have to revisit this one again some time.
Picnic at Hanging Rock
It's a Valentine's Day tradition for me to watch Picnic at Hanging Rock, and it felt so good to be able to revisit this film. It's a film that lingers, that gives viewers just enough to be able to satisfy, but leaves just enough to keep you hooked. While it's nowhere close to a romantic film, it's set on Valentine's Day, which still makes it a Valentine's Day themed film. 43 years after it's release, Picnic at Hanging Rock still manages to entrance viewers and makes you still wonder what exactly happened to those girls on that fateful Valentine's Day at Hanging Rock.
Picnic at Hanging Rock
Utter perfection. One of my favorite holiday traditions!
