if i had a dime for every time maggie gyllenhaal starred in a film with a mask-wearing character named frank, Iβd have two dimes.

I just love this movie so much. Maggie Gyllenhaal is great. Domhnall Gleeson is great. But I think this is all time great Fassbender.

Boggy Creek's Best Movies of 2014 (http://boxd.it/f5Uk) Michael Fassbender is the highpowered, human bobblehead, Frank - a musically-erratic man with a colossal fake head. Check the poster and you'll see the whopper. It's beyond unknown how Fassbender performs so terrific with no facial emotion. It makes Frank that much more of a pleasant surprise. Step up and chuckle. A lot. Frank's a big ball of hilarity. Run-of-the-mill black comedies can be jam-packed with genuine jokes. It's the film's nature to be a toned down example of black comedy everywhere. This one's a load of laughter and straight face awing supported by bobblehead himself. Frank is 2014's defining character; this year's Theodore Twombly of Her. Curious in the beginning and neighborly by the end, Frank is the strange friend you'd love to know. Fassbender pops his swagger like an out-of-nowhere lightning bolt. He's mentally surprising. Bringing his singing and acting lessons into one. The biggest surprise is his tune. Think Ian Curtis of Joy Division meets The Doors's Jim Morrison. Fassbender belts a powerful note. Reaching the U.S.A. is the turning point of Frank. His band's biggest gig and yet the buildup is a little flat in the key of 'droop' once they land. Move over jokes, step in intentness; respect lightly. Frank is still the main attraction, thankfully. His show is bopping good. Like the music and mind of Frank, Frank is a wacky and original black comedy. Surprising, yes. Intriguing, yes. Funny, yes. This wack gig is an unexpected entry in the best of 2014. GRADE:B+
