Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond is a fascinating look into Jim Carrey's career, focusing on his performance as Andy Kaufman in the film Man on the Moon. The documentary looks at Carrey's method acting, showing behind-the-scenes footage of his all-out performance as Kaufman, as well as giving insight into how Carrey felt being the character. Carrey is one of the most well-known comedians today, so it's interesting to see him truly enter the mind of another comedian. It's outrageous, but truly is an interesting look into how far actors are willing to go to embody another person or character. It's outrageous at times, but still manages to keep your attention from Carrey's captivating performance. Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond is one of the year's best documentaries, as well as one of the most outrageous, but show's an actors willingness to take it as far is possible to embody a character.

The Year is 2017: Ranked and Reviewed (https://boxd.it/1aqJG) If you think you know the real Jim Carrey as the funny, unrestrained, and face wiedling comedian, then you obviously haven't seen him at his most bizarre and existential in Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond. Carrey, at the top of his career, spoons his comedic genius persona as idol Andy Kaufman during the filming of Man on the Moon—never failing to return to his normal personality, and instead remaining in character for all to see. It's extraordinary to see an actor as well-known and appreciated as Carrey do something so eccentric even for him—mimicking the different acts of Kaufman in a wave of everchanging spirits, and like he says, they're all telepathically communicating with each other. Other than the actor's method approach to the performance, there isn't anything remotely exclusive about Jim & Andy, but, it's certainly good enough without it. 3.7/5
