Great adaptation of the story! The house is really something and everything is shot like a high-contrast, all-angles dream. The interiority of Eleanor is made external via voice-over, if it isn't already written plain on her wild-eyed face. They really pull off the slow-building descent (ascent?) into other realms -- very raw and unsettling for the time I'd imagine and, given the themes and empathy for the character, still harrowing today. With our self-inflicted Bond marathoning here lately, it was a small delight to see "Moneypenny" turn up, if only for a bit.
The Haunting
Visually this movie is incredible; love the eerie gothic vibes of the old house, plenty of spooky moments that I’m sure were scary for its time. I’m a sucker for a good haunted house movie, definitely want to revisit this one. My main gripe with this are the unnecessary homophobic comments Eleanor makes to Theo, that part has aged like milk.
