Mad Max

One of the strangest films I’ve ever seen. Watched when I was a kid and remembered it fondly but I didn’t remember how peculiar it is. The baby is left multiple times with no regard from the mother or Max, and the death scene is absolutely brutal. The villain, toe cutter or whatever he’s called, is one of the worst villains I’ve ever seen. Max being introduced as a cool, mysterious man and then 5 minutes later being a normal family man is also very strange. The fact he decides to quit the force, when he finds a ra*ped women on the side of the road is so strange to me, surly this would make him want to catch the criminals? And why does he constantly leave his wife by herself after she’s just been attacked? However, it’s very funny and there are some great effects. Plus Mel Gibson is great in this. Overall it’s good but incredibly strange.

Eu amo como esse aqui é base e um protótipo pra tudo que viria. Muitos falam de guerreiros da estrada, com razão, mas é engraçado como esse aqui parece tanto um protótipo pro universo distópico do Miller e, me arrisco em falar, Loucademia de Polícia. O Mel Gibson não sabe a reação ou a sensação pra passar, a lógica jurídica meio freestyle e as cenas de perseguição são muito boas. Adoro os momentos de colisão, a conclusão que não vem diretamente pelo protagonista e a aceitação daquele mundo de violência... É muito bom. Tem alguns deslizes na condução e na montagem!? Sim. Mas funciona e foi a base pra tudo que veio depois, sem falar que a estética de couro e faroeste urbano é muito boa. Um filme bom.

Super low budget dystopian punk action with confusingly bad editing and lack of any characterisation. Nevertheless, the atmosphere and kind of disturbing characters make it a must-see b-movie masterpiece.

The stunts here were pretty impressive, knowing that everything had to be spot on to make sure they were done safely, really adding some grit to the film. Other than the impressive special effects, Mad Maxis an average thriller that left me wishing it had been more interesting. It wasn’t able to fully grab my attention and hold it, with the effects being the thing that made it worthwhile. I know it’ll likely grow on me after some time, and after watching the other films in the series, but this is a meh start to the franchise unfortunately.
