Well, this drops you straight into the line of fire, eh? I liked Dead Man’s Wire, but didn’t loved it because it struggled a bit emotionally. We’re watching a 63 hour event unfold over 1.75 hours. You need to be veryyy particular with what you do with that time. I found it hard to stay fully invested because despite the context, I never fully understood the history or desires that pushed Kiritis to madness. That’s not to detract from the performances though. Skarsgård and the supporting cast were brilliant throughout. It was the directive choices that made a potentially great story, just good. Nothing truly blew me away, and it felt like it crawled to the finish line after losing about 39% of my interest halfway through. Being a true story, I respect that you can only take so many creative liberties, so I appreciate what Van Sant did with the material. Brava, for the most part.
