The Howling

another example of a classic movie thats highly praised not actually being that good at all. the directing, acting, dialogue, and editing choices were not great. some good moments like the ending with dee wallace's character. the worst part was the fact that they thought we needed to see clips from a porno of a woman being violently raped. also tell me why in that one scene the man's body was covered by the fire but we needed to see the woman in full frontal nudity. they could have film the woman the same way but ofc a male director wanted to show a naked woman and no one questions this behavior.

The Howling

Night 28 of 31 Nights of Halloween Werewolves are a sub-genre of horror that I rarely dip into. The Wolf Man really is the only film that I can say that I've seen within the genre, so that's not really saying much. The Howling is one of the more notable werewolf films form the 80's, and fit perfectly into my horror marathon. I am beyond glad that I did decide to watch this film, because it was surprisingly great. I was expecting a b-horror film that had bad effects and bad acting, but The Howling is something entirely different. Looking at werewolves in a societal sense, this film has some of the best practical effects I have possibly ever seen. The transformations are horrifying, and the fully transformed wolves are absolutely terrifying. The slight filter on many scenes of the film make the entire film feel more dream-like, adding to the general fantasy feel of the film. Joe Dante may be known for directing Gremlins, but now I'm definitely doing to know his name for The Howling.

The Howling

I have a 20 film horror collection and own the 4th installment of this so I decided to watch the first. This was one of the weirdest horror films I think I've seen in a while. It starts out as a mystery slasher thriller then switches gears to a crazy werewolf story. For how old this film is the effects look great. The werewolf transformation scenes were very disturbing because of how long they went on for. I feel like the 80s has either some of the best or most underrated horror movies ever. I really enjoyed the aesthetics this had and the weirdness. I honestly feel like older horror just hits better than modern tbh. Definitely a hidden gem here. A pretty random movie to start the new year with tho but it was a fun watch.
