Die Another Day

An interesting Bond, this is Brosnans second best outing overall. Jinx was a good Bond girl, and the story was unique, however the villians were strange and not too interesting. It was also unrealistic at times. The invisible car was very cool though.

Die Another Day

Minces together "24"-era torture and geopolitical gesturing with Spy Kids level CG antics. (Not to say anything ill of Spy Kids!) All very incongruous. Tries also to say something about race and Western influence, but does so in the wholly inadequate Bond vernacular, even before getting lost down the whole racial transformation thing again. Someone gets stabbed with the Art of War. Brosnan winces through the dialogue.

Die Another Day

“You lived to die another day.” Goldeneye…is that you? You look different. No but seriously, whose idea was it to just re-tread the same plot elements from Brosnan’s first outing as Bond? Only worse in every conceivable way. I don’t think I would be wrong to say that Agent Cody Banks (a film that released around the same time) out does nearly every element of this—and that’s not a compliment to Banks, moreso a slight against DIE ANOTHER DAY. What a frustrating and sad note for Brosnan’s tenure to end on, it almost feels like he never even really got started. All that said, this was my first ever Bond film and so I’m fond of it in ways that I don’t even fully understand myself. Yes, that includes Madonna’s title track. Anal eyes, analyze, anal lies. Sigmund Freud. It’s a classic. I won’t apologize. Goodbye Pierce Brosnan, and helloooooo Daniel Craig.
