“Go with God.” “God’s going to sit this one out.” It’s just not very good, is it? Thomas Jane is, so far, the best actor to play Frank Castle however the material he’s given here is so paper thin, and dull, not even his charisma and hot body can save the movie. Though him being covered in blood and half naked for most of the runtime certainly helped me get through it. There’s a good story in here somewhere (because the comics it’s based on are good) but it never manages to find its footing and while Castle does get his revenge—as he should, it felt unsatisfying. I did appreciate his scenes at his apartment with his neighbors though. “Why did you risk your life for me?” ”You’re one of us, you’re family.” I am an absolute sucker for found family and choosing your own family. I think there’s a good emotional core to Frank, a former cop and solider, being given up by his former “family” and then finding a new family of misfits and societal outcasts that don’t know him that well, and would rather die than betray him. It’s a shame they didn’t do more with it. But yeah, Thomas Jane hot.
