Leatherface

i believe i big reason people trash some remakes, prequels and sequels is because they are drastically different than the original not because they are actually bad. leatherface is more narrative driven than any other TCM film. thats why it feels so different. the characterization of the kid who became leatherface is really the main bad thing, because no fucking way that leatherface was acting/living like a normal teenager before he became the man in the original film. i think everyone who has seen the original believes leatherface was likely born mentally disabled bc of his behavior in the film. so like i said the characterization was a poor choice. (not to discredit the actors performance after the reveal) it's decent horror film even though the leatherface plot twist is bad. the cringe sex scene is also a strike against it. decent fx. decent acting. interesting characters. this really is one of the better texas chainsaw movies. overhated and unfairly hated. it deserves higher than an 2.1 come on yall.

Leatherface

One of the most iconic horror movie villains of all time is Leatherface, who rose to infamy in Tobe Hooper's low-budget film The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. To this day, Leatherface is still a household name, terrifying people 40 years after his on screen debut. Throughout the years, there has been origin stories, as well as remakes, so it's not a surprise that Leatherface graces screens again. The latest installment to the Leatherface mythology is the self-titled film, a film that shows the birth of such an iconic horror film figure. Leatherface simply is an origin story. There's not much to it, it just follows the boy who would become known as Leatherface. For such an iconic figure, you would think that the backstory would be very intriguing, but that's not the case here. The plot of the film really left me wanting more, wanting to know more of what made him the way he is. It's a decent backstory, but there's nothing that really stands out throughout, which may be due to the screenplay, rather than the directors creative decisions. The filming style was very distinct, which fared well for this type of horror film, but would have been much more effective if there had actually been a better film to direct. The directors made due with what they had and put out the best film they could, not shy on the gore, which is what people came to see. Altogether, Leatherface is a decent horror film, but a subpar origin story, which really weighed the film down. If the story behind such an iconic figure had been more interesting, this film could have been one of this year's best horror films, but sadly this is one of the more forgettable horror films to have come out. Having seen this, I really need to see Livid, another horror film I've been meaning to watch for a long time now. And now that I've seen this, I need to rewatch The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and see the brilliance of that film.

Leatherface
