Pretty dark picture to get such a massive studio special effects haul. Very impressive tech for the time! The worst impulses lie behind its invisibility scenario and Verhoeven isn't going to shy away from any of it. Breezy characterization, but moves along like a well-oiled genre machine. Thrills and chills. Movie scientist glam. Mean piece of work.

Besides the exciting story and great cast, there’s one thing that always draws me back to this film, and that is the visuals. I’m sure in the year 2000 it was an impressive feat, but what’s truly amazing is how well they hold up in this current decade.
