I've seen the The Lion In Winter and yet *how* does he look even younger here a decade later!! Well certainly the eyes (the eeyyeess) make their mark here, and that barely-contained menace associated with much later roles. The relentless vaudevillian commentary playing against a completely straight 70's dramatic/thriller environment, I can't figure if the film's self-seriousness suits it or detracts from it. I really enjoyed Meredith's character here, an aging vaudeville star who's seen it all and knows when too far is too far, and maybe the film's competing tones play to that sense of un-rightness.
