Creepshow

Creepshow is a film that is not without flaws, but I can overlook them, since I have so much fun watching it every time. It seems like I always find something new that I enjoy about the film every time I watch it, slowly peeling each layer back with every viewing. Some shorts are a little too long, the effects can be pretty cheesy at time, but it has a lot of charm, and is actually a very well-done horror film, and while it may not be the most terrifying film out there, it's still a marvel in some practical effects. And I personally love the integration of the comic book aspects into the film, really making it stand out compared to other horror anthologies. Creepshow was a great film to end a great day on, and I cannot wait to see what Shudder does with the television series!

Creepshow

As Creepshow is an anthology movie, let's look at each segment individually: Father's Day- This one seemed to be the most horror inspired. It actually had things that were scary (yes, Ed Harris's dancing lands on that list) and it was a fantastic way to kick off the film. ★★★★ The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill- What even was this? What was the scary part about it? I'll tell you what was scary; Stephen King's acting. He's a writer for a reason, not an actor. Other than his terrifying acting, this short offers absolutely nothing. Who's actually scared of grass that grows everywhere? Nobody. ★ Something to Tide You Over- Finally! The short I had been waiting for! Leslie Nielsen in something that isn't funny! And he was amazing! He was able to play a psychopath (or was he a sociopath?) perfectly. I'm surprised he didn't do more horror movies like this. Everything was perfect. The suspense was agonizing. The atmosphere was heavy. All of this working together made this the strongest short of the entire film! ★★★★★ The Crate- I honestly don't see why everyone loves this one so much. It's predictable. The twist? Nothing that's not been done before. The only interesting thing about it was the fact that when the deaths happened, there was some cool backdrops and the lighting using various colors was interesting. Other than that, it was a weak segment. ★★ They're Creeping Up on You- An interesting look into those with money. It wasn't necessarily scary, but it did make you think about what those with lots of money do when things don't go their way. It was another predictable segment, but the futuristic feel to it made it an interesting watch. ★★½ Altogether, Creepshow was a pretty decent anthology. It's really cool having it be based off of some comics, since the people who read them could follow along and see the comics come to life. It's a different anthology, like how The ABC’s of Death and Trick 'r Treat are different kinds of anthology movies. I'm really interested to see how Creepshow 2 (and I am not watching that Creepshow 3 because yeah no) stands up next to this one.

Creepshow

I recently acquired Scream Factory’s 4K copy of this film, and I popped it in to check out the quality, and ended up sitting through the entire film because I was having so much fun. This film has never looked this good, as vibrant and lively, giving this classic a much deserved update. I have so much fun every time I visit this, and cannot wait to visit it again while it looks this good.
