For me this was simply fine. Nothing great or emotionally interesting but at the same time it’s not really a bad film. Penélope Cruz is the stand out of the film, and the story is interesting and worth telling, but I wasn’t a fan of the pacing or way it ended. A wild time which, if anything, felt too tame.

Para além de observar a devoção obsessiva do indivídio com o seu método de trabalho e sua incapacidade em se desvincular-se dele - um aspecto dramático recorrente no cinema de Michael Mann -, Ferrari é um ensaio sobre a ruína de um império cimentado pela tragédia. As mortes, tanto as que a câmera não registra quanto aquelas que as lentes encaram com uma frontalidade aterradora, são fundamentos desse passado fantasmagórico de glórias perdidas; da abertura em flashback que se finda nos olhos de Enzo em freeze-frame até o segmento da opera exorcizando as lembranças afetuosas de um ciclo familiar, de seus momentos de beleza até a antecipação de uma perda inevitável. O fracasso em Ferrari não é tão angustiante quanto o peso que ele exerce sob seus personagens. E Mann concretiza essa atmosfera nessa unidade fúnebre: os espaços internos consumidos por uma escuridão corrosiva, os close-ups que evidenciam as tormentas internas, as mudanças do foco em uma mesma imagem; os silêncios, em especial, possuem uma energia sepucral, sobretudo, aqueles que reafirmam a exaustão de Laura através do olhar cabisbaixo de Pelélope Cruz.

Michael Mann continues to impress me with his filmmaking, 2 for 2 so far. The racing sequences are the shining star here, and as a certified gear-head, the sound design of the cars was immaculate. Some of the accent work wasn’t my favorite though (*cOUGH*DempseyAndWoodley*cOUgH*), but despite that we still get some incredible performances; most notably Adam Driver and Penélope Cruz. However, NOTHING could have prepared me for THAT scene, fucking brutal. Overall, a very solid biopic film.
