The Shallows

Bom demais!

The Shallows

I have a horrible fear of sharks. I can't stand watching Shark Week, let alone most movies that deal with sharks.Jawsis my exception, since it's such an iconic and stunning film. So, going intoThe Shallows, I'm not sure why I wouldn't be afraid. But how wrong I was. I was practically having an anxiety attack through the entire movie. I caught myself hiding at tense points, jumping when there were loud noises, and having that feeling of no control. I fell into all of the traps that this film set out. The shark was terrifying. And I'm talking terrifying. The CGI was actually really well done, with the shark looking very realistic in the underwater scenes. At times the shark did look fake, especially when there was the aerial shots of the shark in the water. And Lively did a decent job, really capturing the "American" tourist vibe. But the show stealer was Steven Seagull. It's a little sad when the most likable character in the movie is a seagull. Nonetheless,The Shallowsis a beautifully directed film that terrified me. It had me scared the entire time, making the movie successful at being horror. While I was scared, many others weren't. It's a decent horror movie that slides into predictability before it's surprising conclusion. The Shallowsisn'tJaws, but is still better thanDeep Blue Sea.
