Sorority House Massacre

A Bay of Blood: A Ranking of Slashers (1974 - 1990) (http://boxd.it/IoH8) Much like the main protagonist, Sorority House Massacre whimpers along its 74 minute run-time in a dreary daze, never open to anything remarkably fun or interesting. Instead it feeds the audience buckets of poorly conceived Slasher traits and what it thinks is clever pacing. But it's a bore, a snooze-fest, and a lifeless piece of 80s horror trash that should be avoided. Don't expect a film along the same lines of Slumber Party Massacre . Sorority House Massacre tries to deliver the next Halloween. By taking itself very seriously, it creates a colorless droll of a mood, which isn't good when the writing is damn awful. The film is a depressing slasher to say the least. The cheap keyboard soundtrack plays a John Carpenter jingle, and there's also a scarring saxophone tune thrown in later. All in all, it's pretty brutal, and like a lot of things in the movie, it's a totally long-suffering time, sparse in the whimsical nature a slasher with the word ‘massacre’ in its title needs. A few slips of the nips are on show like any typical slasher, enforcing the fact that it is a terribly basic horror. Which is funny when it seems to have tried so hard to be different. If you're like me, you'll agree that Sorority House Massacre is a lousy and unforgiving attempt at creating a serious slasher.
