Weird Science
Outdated, cheesy, weirdly edited and plays exactly how you'd expect it but is suprisingly fun towards the end? If anything, this film throws multiple curve-balls at the audience and EVERYTHING at the wall (for better or worse). This one didn't age well so I won't be rushing to rewatch this one again
Weird Science
the concept of luke watching this but not scarface....
Weird Science
I technically finished this on the 22nd but I started it a few days ago so i’m going to split the difference and say I finished it on the 21st because I don’t want to end the streak 😂. It’s fine, better than Pretty in Pink (mainly because it had a John Hughes flair that Pretty in Pink was missing, unfortunately) but easily my least favorite Hughes directed movie so far. 6/10
Weird Science
John Hughes delivers this hard to grasp premise of two teenage boys who cook up the perfect woman via computer and wire and imponderable nature—even after thirty minutes, it's still something to get use to. Think every boy's fantasy turned up to eleven and transmitted through the brain of an eleven year old Hughes and you've got Weird Science; a fun and then some coming-of-age comedy that righteously leans more towards the comedy side. For starters, this film is surprisingly very funny—the dialogue is often hilarious and sweet, as it plays with the two boys surreal situation and lack of audacity in their lives. A particular moment with Anthony Michael Hall showcases the humor he had in the brief scene in The Breakfast Club where his character smokes a joint—here, his character is drunk and strangely enough turns into Eddie Murphy. During the third act's party, things get out of hand and that's where the film dies down in seamless fun—its questionable special fx turn it down a notch, too. Weird Science may shit out this lame nonsense in order to execute the fantasy taking control over its dreamers, despite it being too much at times. Otherwise, the film does all that it really can with its wacky premise. 3.3/5
