Creepshow 2
Since it's an anthology like the first, let's look at each segment individually: Old Chief Wood'nhead- This was probably the strongest segment of them all. Granted, there wasn't anything scary about it, but it was actually a decent watch. It's not the greatest start to the film, since these are supposed to be horror shorts, not revenge shorts that aren't scary. They could have done a lot more with this, but it ended up being just ok. ★★★ The Raft- This was the weakest segment. I can see how it played on horror tropes (i.e. stranded on a lake with no way out, sacrificing lives for your own), but it just wasn't that good. I could look at the movie and completely forget that the segment was even involved. ★ The Hitch-Hiker- This was my favorite segment. It actually led some some decent scares (by decent, I mean that it would be terrifying to hit someone like that), but what I thought was most interesting was the look into trying to figure out if you can cope with killing someone. I actually quite enjoyed this segment, making it the standout segment of the film. ★★★½ Creepshow 2 is an ok film, but not as good as the first one. I don't understand why The Creep was like the narrator, since there wasn't a need for him. At all. They should have kept like the first one and just showed the comic book as it is. I was looking forward to seeing some really good shorts, but instead, these were just decent shorts.
Creepshow 2
Having just watched the first Creepshow film, we wasted to watch the second one again. And, it's still a mess of a film, but it's actually still pretty fun. Rather than having 5 shorts, the budget only let there be three, but the three are actually pretty decent upon rewatching. I had only remembered the second short, which features a pond and a mysterious object in the lake, but I'm not sure why I forgot the others, since they actually are pretty fun. The budget really did start to show, and the comic book sequences are gone, which gave the first film a lot of it's charm, but this overall isn't the disaster that I remember it to be. Maybe I'll have to check out the third one, since I've heard it's an utter trainwreck compared to this one.
