Psycho IV: The Beginning

Yikes. John Landis jumpscare in the opening five minutes! This surprisingly made-for-tv Psycho feature has the weird premise of Norman Bates reminiscing and recounting his disturbing youth/relationship with his mother to a radio talk show host over the phone. And this is how we get our first (but not last) taste of Psycho prequel treatment. What a snoozefest! Ignores what made the previous sequels fun, scary, and twisted. Anthony Perkins is great though and Olivia Hussey gives it her all. Unfortunately, the chunk of this film with Henry Thomas as a teenage Norman are just boring and uninspiring and contained to a single location. Oh well, seeing the soon to be serial killer getting summoned to toilet plunger duties was worth the watch.
