In the Mouth of Madness

"Oh no, not The Carpenters" Sam Neil's Tale From A Crypt is enough to give me Goosebumps and it's not even... Twilight... Zone-*agh* I cant figure out the rest of that joke, but whatever, it's all up there on the silver screen (or another turn of the page), buttressed with butt rock and pretty salty about the state of things while grimly content to fuel its own funeral pyre. Don't know whether I have a hankering to jump back into Stephen King or Cormac McCarthy now

In the Mouth of Madness

John Carpenter was able to blend reality with fantasy, blending the real with the macabre. This Lovecraftian type film was nothing as I anticipated. I had thought the film was going to go one way, and it totally with a 180. What I really liked about this film was how it did feel Lovecraftian. It felt like I was sitting in on of Lovecraft's stories, witnessing the horrors that were told. This unique approach ultimately payed off in the finale. Though it may be ambiguous, the end makes you think about how things are going to be. These types of endings usually make me angry, but it made sense this time. Carpenter, yet again, creates one of the most gripping horror films I have seen. He is one of the best horror directors out there, and this fits in with his style perfectly. I can't wait to see the rest of his films, since all of his films have been amazing.

In the Mouth of Madness

John Carpenter's Lovecraftian horror film In the Mouth of Madness is a thrill-ride like no other. Seemingly to be a small hit toward horror author Stephen King (including several mentions to the author), this film shows an author whose work may not be just fictional. Carpenter is known for his creature effects, as well as well done horror films, and both shine brightly throughout the film. The creature effects were fantastic, feeling like they really did belong in a Carpenter film. There is a certain aesthetic to his films and In the Mouth of Madness captures this aesthetic, making it really feel like you are watching a John Carpenter film. I didn't remember much after watching this film, but I did remember that it definitely left a lasting impression on me when it came to the practical effects. After watching it again, it's solidified that the effects truly are horrifying, with the entire film feeling like it could have come out of an H.P. Lovecraft story. John Carpenter truly is a master of horror, with In the Mouth of Madness showing that his craft really is timeless, still standing up to horror standards today.
