The War of the Worlds
Night 29 of 31 Nights of Halloween Another adaptation of one of my favorite novels, The War of the Worlds blends sci-fi with some genuine terror, even if the effects are pretty cheesy. It’s the type of sci-fi film that I fall in love with every time, and one that I’m very excited to watch again.

“Guns, tanks, bombs - they're like toys against them!” An undoubtedly impressive technicolor marvel of filmmaking, The War of the Worlds is a Cold War era, sci-fi classic for good reason. Surprisingly bleak, this film boasts some genuinely impressive effects and suspenseful moments (well, as suspenseful as a hokey 50’s film can be). The story may be conventional and it’s romance tacked on, but for all of its flaws The War of the Worlds is one hell of a spectacle. On a side note, I would love a Fallout movie in this exact style and tone. There was a shot of Gene Barry running across a destroyed city street and it just got my gears turning. It would most likely bomb at the box office, but I would love it nonetheless.
