JFK

94/100 Check out my top 50 thrillers - boxd.it/mi3k4 (https://boxd.it/mi3k4) Watched the director’s cut obviously and fuck it it’s a 5. One of the best political thrillers I’ve ever seen if not the best. A 3 and 1/2 hour epic that doesn’t miss a single beat. It is brilliantly written - no cheap lines, no bizarre talk just humane conversations constantly unravelling by the minute. It manages to get more interesting as it goes on and makes sure you pay attention to every single line. There are no manufactured pauses, no unnatural actions, no ridiculous expressions, every plays their part perfectly. It is excellently directed and quite perfectly cast. I’m just surprised and gutted that Kevin Costner didn’t even receive a nomination for the Best Actor let alone the award itself. Donald Sutherland came in for a 20 minute stretch and delivered more lines than any other actor, might’ve been on par with Costner. That entire sequence is one of the most interesting conversations I’ve ever heard in a film. The constant flashbacks acting out the assassination and the rounded acts based off of conversations bring in the action for those that want a more picturesque form of storytelling. Although there’s not much proof, this is one of the most compelling arguments I’ve heard that is based off real life incidents.

Come on Oliver, one more like this. For old times sake.

JFK

Stone is at the top of his game here, laying out a thesis combining elements of Jim Garrison’s own theories and book, as well as some others in the JFK Conspiracy community. Incredible star studded cast, amazingly rewatchable.

JFK

If this were made today it would be a 12 episode limited prestige series with a deepfake Kennedy, and Brendan Fraser back in the Whale suit playing Dean Andrews.
